I first met painter Sarah Rutherford at a show of her work in Wellfleet, MA. So deft was her use of color and texture I later purchased two large pieces. Fresh out of the University of Vermont and “practically living” in her car, she showed early promise with excellent drawing and the ability to project poetic intuition into a variety of painterly designs. She left shortly after to explore the New York City art scene and got a job working at Frankies Spuntino, where she was later contracted to do over 100 illustrations for a book of recipes the restaurant intended to publish. For her work (in its second printing), she was recently mentioned in Food and Wine Magazine. Still only 26, she has ample room to grow beyond her initial successes. Sarah currently lives in Rochester, NY where she has helped to establish “The Sweet Meat Co.,” an art collective, creating paintings, accepting commissions and doing illustration work. If you’re looking for a portrait or illustration, I highly recommend this intelligent and driven painter while she is still affordable. See www.sarahrutherford.net.
